The history of the world-famous Guglhupf
The "Guglhupf", one of the most popular Austrian confections of pastry, has a very long history: It derives from the times of the Ancient Romans. The form of a "rotating sun" has been kept until today!

No imperial breakfast without "Guglhupf"
Around 1800, the "Guglhupf", which was prior more or less a meal for the poor, took off on its victory lap. The Emperor himself discovered the marvelous taste one day, and from thereon always asked for a piece of "Guglhupf" for breakfast. This tradition was passed on, from Emperor to Emperor. Also Emperor Franz and his wife Sissi could not imagine breakfast without the "Guglhupf". Consequently, the "Guglhupf" became a status symbol for the wealth and part and parcel for middle-class dining tables, too.
